The Railgun is a 3x2 weapon room that can be built on the Medium Weapons Platform. The Railgun takes quite a bit of time to reload, but the payoff is a massive burst of damage capable of instantly destroying rooms like the Shield Battery.
The Railgun is a burst fire weapon, with long reloads and high damage. With the highest damage out of the three Medium Weapon rooms, the Railgun can be useful when attacking heavily Armored rooms, especially with its 2 AP Damage. However, it does struggle to deal hull damage once a room is destroyed due to its low System Damage.
When To Use
When to use the Railgun really depends on individual playstyle. The Laser Blaster has much better overall DPS, but when targetting a heavily armored room, the Railgun can be the better option. This becomes more are more apparent near the end-game, where commonly targeted rooms have 4-8 Armor blocks around them.
AI for rooms like the Railgun is relatively straightforward. As long as the Railgun’s AI is targeting the same rooms in conjunction with the other weapons on a player’s ship, it should be fine.
