The Ion Cannon is a very powerful weapon at level 11. When the enemy's shield is depleted, it does continuous damage to any room for 3-5 seconds. This does alot of room, hull, and crew damage which is devastating for the enemy. The Ion Cannon really struggles against [[Shield|shields]], so get some weapons or boarders to take down the shield fast.

If your level 11, chances are all the other level 11 people have the Ion Cannon. The AI for the Ion is simply Cannon which means it's classified the same as a [[Bolter]]. Make sure you armor and man the Ion Cannon aswell, as it is a big six power target many boarding ships will target. Rushing the Ion Cannon twice will also still give the same amount of damage as a separated charge.

There isn't much reason not to use the Ion Cannon at level 11. It does take alot of power but it does a ton of damage that the enemy cannot ignore. Pairing this along with the [[EMP Cannon]] can absolutely destroy [[Hangar]] and [[Teleport]]ers. However, if you can't power it, just don't use it.

Summary

Like all weapon rooms that fire in volleys, the Ion Cannon will not start to reload until its entire volley is finished. That means if two Rush Command abilities are used at the same time in the Ion Cannon, only one will affect its reload. This happens with all volley weapon rooms, but it's especially apparent in Ion Cannon because it has a massive volley when compared to other volley weapon rooms.

The Ion Cannon is incredibly powerful by itself, but it can this can be further amplified with the "Ion Rush" Strategy. This strategy involves rushing the Ion Cannon at the start of the game with the Rush Command ability as much as possible. With correct Crew timing, a player can deal massive damage in a short period of time. Since the Ion Cannon also takes a massive amount of power, 1-3 Armor blocks are sufficient for protecting it.
