Summary
The Android Studio is a 2x2 defense room unlocked at level seven. It's also one of the only three Rooms that can use Androids. The Android Studio can only send out up to two Androids during combat. These Androids cannot be controlled by the player. Instead, they follow a preset AI that cannot be edited by the player. Androids are also given the lowest Crew Seniority possible.
There is the Service Droid (Repair, Will Run To Rooms Under 100% HP), Defence Droid (Anti-Boarder, Will Run To Friendly Rooms If Enemy Crew Are Present), and Boarder Droid (Boarding, Will Use The Teleport. First Targeted Room Is Random, But After It's Destroyed The Droid Will Attack Rooms Near It).
Usage
In Combat
The Android Studio can send out either Service, Defence, or Boarder Droids. If the studio is set to send out Service Droids, make sure it's nearby and can reach all powered rooms. If the studio is sending out Defence Droids, place it especially close to rooms like the Small Reactor, Teleport, Shield Generator, etc. If the studio is sending out Boarder Droids, place it near the Teleport.
Androids are very flexible, and players may want to destroy the Android Studio to remove the threat of Androids. Thus, make sure the Android Studio has 1-4 Armor blocks around it. Androids can also cause heavy traffic on the player's Lifts if they are constantly being deployed away from their target destination. Thus, placement of the Android Studio is crucial to reducing heavy traffic.
Android Combos
Service Droid Combo [Support][Early-Late Game] +
The Service Droid Combo utilizes Service Droids to help repair damaged rooms and to heal other Crew with its Healing Rain ability. The Service Droid Combo is one of the earliest combos unlocked for the Android Studio/Visri Mechbay; it's also the most common combo seen in battle.
Defence Droid Combo [Support][Mid-End Game] +
The Defence Droid Combo utilizes Defence Droids that attack enemy boarders onboard the player's ship. Defence Droids have the ability, Critical Attack. This allows the Android to do guaranteed damage on enemy boarders.
Boarder Droid Combo [Win Condition][Mid-Late Game] +
The Boarder Droid Combo utilizes Boarder Droids that use the player's Teleport to board the enemy ship and wreak havoc. Boarder Droids have the ability, Ultra Dismantle. This allows the Android to do hefty damage to the first room it attacks.
Service and Attack Combo [Support][Mid-Late Game] + ( / )
The Service and Attack Combo utilizes Service and Defence/Boarder Droids to essentially do two tasks at once. For example, pairing the Service Droid and Defence Droid together allows the player to defend against enemy boarders whilst also repairing rooms and healing repair Crew.
When To Use
The Android Studio is mainly used to substitute or support Crew onboard a player's ship. Service Droids are mainly used to support Repair Crew, Defence Droids are mainly used to substitute defense crew, and Boarder Droids are mainly used to substitute or support boarders. In the end, it comes down to the player's strategy. Specifically, strategies that require a lot of Crew like Penetrator Missile Spam.
AI
There has to be an AI inside the Android Studio that equips currently built Androids. If there isn't, the Android Studio won't deploy any Androids during combat unless the player manually selects an Android to deploy. Below is a list of Android Equip Commands and what Android they refer to. The "Set Highest ___" commands are broken and will not do anything. The Android Studio itself is categorized as a "Droid Room" in AI coding.
Set Cheapest Items -> Android That Costs The Least Amount Of Minerals To Build
Set Dearest Items -> Android That Costs The Most Amount Of Minerals To Build
Set Item To None -> Unequip Androids
Crew Interactions
The Android Studio is buffed with the Engine stat on crew. The formula used with this stat can be found here.
